After serving its community for over 50 years, the REACH Community Health Centre on Vancouver’s Commercial Drive required a much-needed refresh and expansion.
This vital community building houses an interdisciplinary team offering health and social services. The structure needed an extensive renewal and expansion to meet the demands of its growing community.
To provide additional serviceable floor space on a tight and congested site, the basement was dug out and underpinned, while the upper floors were deconstructed, modified and upgraded to meet current code. The building also underwent a full seismic upgrade. The completed upgrades enabled the reuse of the existing building, while also minimizing waste material.
As a result of this project, REACH Community Health Centre will be viable for many years to come.
